the secret to a big bench

What’s the secret?

Whats the Secret to a big bench press? I have been doing some Hostyle Gear tours over the last 2 months. Every 2 weeks I went out to a store or gym that carries our Hostyle Gear, wrist wraps, belts and other training gear. It’s my way of helping support these gyms and stores as a way to thank them for carrying the line. I usually hold a bench workshop. Teach some basics – have people work their bench press[…]

On Motivation

On Motivation An XXXL sweatshirt.   A free gym membership.   Twenty free tanning sessions.   It was June 27th, 1998, and I’d just won the lightweight division at the MABBA Provincial Bodybuilding championships in Winnipeg.     Other than winning, I don’t remember much about that day.  I don’t remember what music I posed to.  I don’t remember the names of the other women in my weight class.  Frankly, if it weren’t for the picture I found recently, I[…]

Mission accomplished!!

The road to 550 bench press Mission accomplished!! This past Saturday April 1st I hit a milestone on the Bench press 550 lbs (see video Below) Its really cool to see that I can still get stronger at 49 years old. (testosterone plays a huge role in that) But it’s a shit ton of hard work. But the real work wasn’t in the gym. Don’t me wrong the bench season from December to April 1st where I competed twice[…]

Meet Shelley Hostyle

Meet Shelley

Meet Shelley. Wife, mother, business owner, strength athlete. We’d met a few times over the past couple years. We have mutual clients and friends in the local Ottawa business community and have attended some of the same networking events. More recently, I became aware of her competitive powerlifting experience, seeing some social media posts and videos. But her most recent competition—at the CPU Nationals in Regina in February—really intrigued me. Here was a person who went to her first national[…]

Who the Hell is Coach Andrew

Andrew grew up playing competitive sports. Baseball, Rugby and Hockey. His focus was hockey and in his last 2 years of minor hockey he played at the highest level. That was followed by three years of junior hockey in Rockland in which he was an assistant captain in the 3rd year. As an athlete he missed that competitive spirit until he found Hostyle. Hostyle brought that intensity and competitive drive that he had been missing since his competitive sport days.[…]
